The Buffer Zone

How do we raise our next generation of boys to be strong, healthy, intelligent, confident men? Men who are ready to take their rightful place in the world as full participants.  With our legacy of slavery, segregation, and oppression, it is not easy.  Our boys are prejudged, profiled, marginalized, and targeted, so much so that they often believe and embrace a counter culture that is against everything that their ancestors fought and died for.  But as adults we must hold our children closer, we must protect and safeguard them from the “snares and minefields” that they must navigate everyday.  We are working to improve the life outcomes of all African Americans, but especially our boys and men.

Our goal is to generate local and national support for cities and states to adopt and implement “Buffer Zones.”  Buffer Zones prohibit the sale of menthol and all flavored tobacco products within a 500-1000 ft. radius of schools.  This includes Black and Milds, Swisher Sweets, Blunt wrappers, and other cheap and unregulated tobacco products that are dumped in our communities.
