Restrict The Sale of Mentholated Tobacco Products
The Citizens’ Commission to Protect the Truth – Former U.S. Secretaries of Health, Surgeon Generals, Directors of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention urge Lorillard, R.J. Reynolds and Philip Morris to stop marketing and selling menthol cigarettes.
The Global Scale
Brazil and the European Union have banned it. The United States needs to act now and protect its citizens.
Time To Ban Menthol Report -- In 2009, Congress passed the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, banning all flavorings from cigarettes except menthol, but granting the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) the authority to extend that ban to menthol.
What Your City Can Do
How do we raise the next generation to be strong, healthy and intelligent adults? Adults who are ready to take their rightful place in the world. It is not easy with our legacy of slavery, segregation and oppression. But it is far from impossible. As the current generation, we must hold our children closer to protect them from the snares and minefields that they navigate daily. The AATCLC is working to improve the life outcomes of all African Americans, especially young boys and men.
Our goal is to generate widespread support for local governments to adopt and implement “Buffer Zones.” Buffer Zones prohibit the sale of menthol and all flavored tobacco products within a 500-1000 foot radius of schools. This includes Black & Milds, Swisher Sweets, blunt wraps and any other tobacco products that are dumped in African-American communities.
