Poetic Prez, also known as Kyle V. Matthews, is a poet from Plainfield, New Jersey. He has been writing and performing spoken word for 15 years and shares a unique perspective on wellness, relationships, and the black experience.
His rendition of "You Don't Want That Smoke" is inspired by his Grandmother and her addiction to cigarettes, and how it made him keenly aware of the dangers and impact on the body and the family.
The inspiration for this came from providing some context and creating awareness as to how the tobacco industry was able to polarize the American society and the impact its had on all Americans but black families in particular.
